Sumarson Kamandito was born in Tegal, September 20th 1960. He was raised by a family who once ran a shuttlecock manufacturing business. He has started working since his very early years - handling most aspects of the family business, from procuring the material, manufacturing, marketing, as well as sustaining relationship with customers. Living within poverty-stricken situation creates a person he is now; compulsively hardworking, obsessively efficient, and extreme focus on relationships as it is essential for survival.
He later studied electrical engineering in Maranatha University, Bandung. His first contact with the construction realm was 1984, he worked for one of the oldest M/E contractor in Indonesia, PT. Karya Intertek Kencana. He then moved one of the largest M/E contractor in Indonesia, PT. Jaga Citra inti. He started small as field supervisor with zero practical knowledge on projects at all, but he soon caught up with and rose to a position as high as technical director.
During his service period, he is known to be a result-oriented practician. His quality which was well known among his peers is his sense of belonging to the company which often resulted raised eyebrows and frequent questioning, "You work as if this is your own company. You don't get anything more than what you are paid. Why would you do that?" This boils down to his fundamental value that lead his professional life: responsibility, he elegantly stated that "There is only one way of working, which is to work efficiently and efficaciously. To work inefficiently and inefficaciously is no work at all".
